Mine Blast in Israel

On February 6, 11-year-old Daniel Yuval from Tel Aviv was playing in the fresh snow in the Golan Heights when he stepped on landmine and lost his leg. His 12 year-old sister also sustained shrapnel injuries.

The incident has prompted many in Israel and around the world to ask not only whether the minefield was properly fenced, but why hundreds of thousands of mines are buried there in the first place.

In 1997, 15-year-old Ermin was helping his family cut firewood near their home in Bosnia-Herzegovina when he stepped on a landmine. The explosion resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee.
