Rotary Clubs Encouraged to Support Landmine Victim Assistance
Rotarians interested in supporting mine victims or starting landmine-related service projects, are encouraged to attend a conference hosted by the US Department of State, Office of Mine Action Initiatives and Partnerships, and the Mine Action Information Center at James Madison University in Seattle, September 30 and October 1. LSN co-Founder Dr. Ken Rutherford will attend the conference to provide information and discuss LSN's services and activities within the US and abroad.
The conference, titled "Ending the Tragedy of Landmines Through Innovation and Cooperation" is designed to provide Rotarians with the latest information and best practices regarding survivors assistance, landmine eradication, technology, and mine risk education. Rotary Clubs currently engaged in mine action projects will be on hand to describe their work.
NGOs such as Landmine Survivors Network, the United Nations Adopt-A-Minefield, Vietnam Veterans of American Foundation, and The HALO Trust will be present to talk about the landmine issue and how Rotarians can form partnerships with the organizations or with their specific country programs.
Invited speakers include Her Majesty Queen Noor, the Rotary International President, Richard King, and the head of the socio-economic section at the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining, Eric Filippino.
