"A soldier was killed and three others injured, including two seriously, by a mine explosion as they were returning from an operation in south Lebanon," an army spokesman told AFP Wednesday.

He said the unit "by accident entered a mine field placed by the Israeli army in south Lebanon near the Israeli border."

According to Israeli media, the accident occurred west of the Israeli kibbutz of Yiftah, which is around 10 kilometers (six miles) south of the border town of Kiryat Shmona.

Earlier Arab news channels Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera reported that an Israeli soldier was killed and three were wounded when a landmine hit their tank in south Lebanon.
