Survivor Stories
Izet Ademaj - Albania
In 1999, Izet Ademaj stepped on a landmine while patrolling near the border during the Kosovo conflict. He lost his leg as a result of the blast.
Izet works for an NGO called "Kukesi Mine & Weapon Victims", where he serves as a Field Monitor conducting Mine Risk Education with mine-affected communities in Northern Albania. In addition, he helps Victim Assistance teams work with survivors in setting up revolving fund programs for the survivors, and also is involved in setting up an advocacy program to help integrate survivors in to social insurance schemes. Izet and his wife also keep bees and sell the honey locally.
