Survivor Stories
Mirzeta Gabeljic - Bosnia and Herzegovina
Mirzeta was born in 1982 in Sarajevo, where she still lives with her family. She stepped on landmine in 1997 while she was returning from school. The explosion caused her right leg to be amputated below the knee.
LSN and Rotary International have helped support Mirzeta by providing money and construction materials to build a room and bathroom for Mirzeta’s family. She has finished three grades of Agriculture schools in Sarajevo, and would like to continue her education. Mirzeta is also interested in starting the first sitting volleyball club for women, and is involved in local sports organizations for people with disabilities. Mirzeta was one of the survivors that Princess Diana visited during her trip to Bosnia with LSN in 1997.
