LSN El Salvador Health
LSN-El Salvador is an official member in CONAIPD, the National Board of Integral Attention to Persons with Disability. This is the first step in LSN’s participation in the Health and Integration Community and Autonomous Life committees, advocating for legislation and programs to support people with disability at the national level. CONAIPD is a National Agency that serves as an umbrella organization for disability organizations in El Salvador. LSN-El Salvador works within three committees: Health, Life, and Labor Insertion. Through their relationship with the CONAIPD Health Committee, LSN-El Salvador has developed relationships with the Ministry of Health and the National Hospitals.
LSN-El Salvador, in cooperation with CONAIPD, organized two health trainings for employees in the Ministry of Health and Social Security, to improve their knowledge of health and medical care for amputees. LSN-El Salvador followed up this training by visiting hospitals, and providing information about LSN’s work.
The Surviving Limb Loss pamphlet series has been translated into Spanish and distributed to hundreds of survivors.
Sports
LSN-El Salvador supports a football (soccer) team comprised of 37 landmine survivors. They receive uniforms and other sports materials from LSN. They play against both amputee and non-amputee teams.
The LSN-El Salvador network is currently in the process of registering with the National Sports Association. This will enable the Network to work on an official level to promote the rights of people with disabilities to participate in national sports programs, and encourage survivors to play sports.
