'Policemen killed' in India blast - BBC News
At least 12 policemen have been killed in a landmine blast triggered by suspected rebels in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, police say.
The incident took place when a police team was attempting to defuse a bomb planted in a school building in the West Singhbhum district.
It is located some 250km (156 miles) south of the state capital Ranchi.
More than 6,000 people have died during the rebels' 20-year fight for a communist state in parts of India.
A police official told the BBC they suspect that the Maoist rebels had laid a trap for the policemen by planting a bomb in the school building.
The incident comes close on the heels of a fierce gun battle between Maoists and police personnel in Chatra in Jharkhand on Wednesday.
Two Maoist rebels, including a woman, were arrested later.
