Pakistani soldier injured in landmine blast - New Kerala
Islamabad, June 27: A Pakistani soldier was injured today in the country's North Waziristan tribal region in a roadside land mine blast near a military convoy.
The attack occurred near Miranshah, the headquarters of the North Waziristan tribal region, when a military convoy was heading to Miranshah from Bannu, a major city at the edge of Waziristan, Geo television reported.
It is the second attack on security forces in the region in two days. Seven security men were killed when a suicide bomber rammed his car into a security check post near Miranshah yesterday.
Attacks on security forces happened despite a ceasefire announcement from a purported spokesman of the local militants Abdullah Farhad.
Farhad first denied his men involvement in yesterday's attack but later took responsibility as according to him the security forces had stopped his car.
Geo reported that the blast also damaged a military vehicle. The injured soldier was taken to a military in Bannu.
According to report three persons were killed in retaliation by the security forces. There was no official confirmation of the killing.
A tribal jirga, or council of elders was planned later toady to find out peaceful solution to the crisis in the area.
No one has claimed responsibility for today's suicide attack.
