Timur Zantariya - Georgia (Abkhazia)
In 1993, during the Abkhaz-Georgian war, Timur Zantariya was in an armored vehicle that ran over an anti-tank landmine. Timur lost his entire left leg as a result of the blast.
Timur Zantariya’s background is in agronomics and he is currently the director of the Ecological Foundation in Abkhazia. He is an active volunteer at Association Inva-Support (AIS), as well as in the Abkhazia Campaign to Ban Landmines. Timur also participates in the Coordination Council on Issues of the Disabled. The Council was formed to coordinate the work of disability organizations and agencies. It is currently focusing on critique and analysis of current legislation on disability issues. In addition to these activities, Timur coordinates the Club of Ex-combatants, a project sponsored by Conciliation Resources, a London-based NGO.
