Survivor Stories
Bilka Alijacic - Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bilka was born in 1977 in Bihac and still lives there with her family. She lost her left leg below knee the knee due to an injury from artillery shelling during the war. She was injured in 1993, at age 16, while trying to help her mother, who was also injured during the shelling and is also a below-the-knee amputee.
Bilka received a grant from Rotary International and LSN Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has assisted in providing food, firewood, vocational training (tailoring), and a sewing machine. Now she is able to do tailoring work and offer her services to the neighbours.
