LSN Bosnia-Herzegovina Economic Opportunity
Economic stability is a crucial step toward the reintegration of survivors back into their communities. LSN-Bosnia has developed economic opportunity programs designed to empower and guide survivors toward financial sustainability and independence.
LSN-Bosnia has organized economic integration workshops for 14 groups, as well as vocational training in agriculture production. As a direct result of the training, which focused on greenhouse agriculture, three survivors received in-kind assistance to start up their own businesses and have been able to generate sustainable income.
The Arts
LSN-Bosnia-Herzegovina hosts an annual exhibition of survivors’ artwork as part of their on-going efforts to empower survivors to recover, find economic stability and advocate for their human rights. Survivors, men and women from all regions of Bosnia-Herzegovina, gather to showcase their creations. This exhibit is an opportunity for survivors to sell their work to a broad audience. Representatives from many governmental and non-governmental organizations and international institutions attend these exhibits. Local media coverage of the event further promotes survivors’ skills and abilities, and helps raise awareness about the issues confronting people with disabilities.
Recently, LSN-Bosnia partnered with the Art Colony in the Banja Luka region to bring together artists with and without disabilities for a five-day art workshop. Similar to volleyball and other sporting events, the workshop brought people from various factions together, and provided a forum for artists without disabilities to witness the work and creativity of those with disabilities.
